Old Moshi Total Experience

This is a wonderful two days package for those with ample time and interested to experience totally the ways of life of chagga people living on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 1:
You will visit a beautiful countryside on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro filled with banana and coffee farms to learn ways of life and farming practices of the natives, the Chagga people and their chiefdom system. With this package you will also explore historical sites and learn more about the rich history of Old Moshi dating back to before German colonization to include a tree where Mangi (Chief) Meli was hanged by the Germans in 1900, the palace of the chief, German military base from the 1890’s, a cemetery and an old slave market ruins. You can also choose to visit to a village school or dispensary.

Excitingly, you will enjoy local banana beer and delicious local lunch prepared by mamas in the village before taking a scenic hike to Mambori waterfalls for swimming and picnics where along the route you will also learn variety of naturally growing medicinal plants used by the natives Chagga people. In the evening, you will be treated to a delicious home cooked meal, and then spend the night at the accommodation of your choosing (camping or home stay nearby Keys Hotel).

Day 2:
You will visit Kitimbirihu a historical theology site where Christian missionaries from Germany first preached the word of God and baptized the first peoples on the slope of Mount Kilimanjaro around 1885 and then hike to Kidia Lutheran Church, an original stone church built by German missionaries, as well as Kidia dispensary where you will learn about Doctor Bruno Gutman. You will then enjoy a delicious local lunch, with the options to take part in the preparation (if interested).

You will a visit to a coffee, vanilla, and spice farm to learn coffee, vanilla and spice village farming practices to include a “Step by Step Coffee Preparation” as from harvest, drying, roasting and grounding and have the opportunity to enjoy a cup of organic coffee and a taste of village vanilla and or spiced tea.
